Learn Pranayama Online Course

The official launch of the Learn Pranayama Online course is here. This is a MASSIVE 30+ hour course for yoga teachers, and students with a consistent practice.

The method I use to teach pranayama in my 300 hour yoga teacher training is now in an online format. You can learn at your own pace, yet still have access to the teacher through an intuitive instant message system and group forums.

You will learn the steps that move your practice beyond asana, and charge your teaching with the knowledge that will take your students further!

When I Knew It Was Time to Deepen My Yoga Practice

A number of years ago I experienced two specific things that had a great impact on my interest in learning more about pranayama. It was the sort of thing that you don’t realize at the time, but in looking back (hindsight) I see that the trajectory of my yoga, practice and teaching, has been significantly affected by it.

1. I was losing interest in advancing my asana practice.

When I first started practicing yoga, I was already into fitness and exercise. But, yoga did something different to me. I felt more energized after practicing. My mind, mental clarity, and well-being improved tremendously from the practice.

As with all things that take up your interest, I would spend a great deal of time from then on trying to learn more, trying to “get better” at the yoga poses I was learning.

There came a time in my progression of those poses where I started to feel like it was pointless. As in my weight training years before, it felt like I was simply trying to advance to gratify my ego – to feel like I was getting further in my practice.

When there's a shift in something that's been important to you, you sort of experience an existential crisis.

When there’s a shift in something that’s been important to you, you sort of experience an existential crisis.

Now, well into my 40s I have a strong suspicion that my body has passed its physical peak, and my physical “progression” in yoga poses will likely decline.

There’s got to be something deeper than progression for the sake of progression!!!

2. I was preparing to start training teachers and more advanced students, and needed to take my teaching skills further than what’s simply being offered in drop in classes.

My yoga career was advancing (or ready to advance), and I wanted to offer more than what had been possible in drop-in classes.

The problem was that even though I trained and studied with excellent teachers, I didn’t quite feel that any of my Western teachers had adequately explained the practice of pranayama fully to me.

I felt that if I were going to take on the mantel of “Senior Teacher”, that I should have more confidence in those next level teachings that I wanted to offer.

At this time I knew it was time to travel to the source. I had a real purpose to be there other than curiosity or tourism. I went to India where I spent a good deal of time with a yogi who grew up in the Himalayan foothills. He trained with the kind of yogis who spent their whole lives in practice, and didn’t represent any name brands or celebrities.

What I learned there forever changed my yoga, it changed my teaching, it changed my life.

Now I can bring that knowledge to you in the Learn Pranayama Online Course

It’s been several years since my pranayama studies in India. Altogether, I have taught over 20 yoga teacher trainings, most of them as the lead teacher. I have more experience at this than most teachers I know, and what this experience has enabled me to do is to learn how to deliver this information to students in a way that is really clear and understandable.

The clarity around my instruction lends itself really well to online learning. The resources available on my online learning platform make it even better. I’ll tell you about those resources at another time, or feel free to email or message me if you have questions.

In the meantime, if you are like I was, and experiencing a cross roads in your teaching. Then I think that really putting some effort into further exploring the other 8 Limbs of Hatha Yoga will open up new doors to you in your practice, in your teaching, and in your life.
